Twitter has been recognized as one of the best and most used social
networking sites out there, at least next to Facebook. It can be very
amazing that despite of the limited 140 characters that can be added as a
message status for everything you can think of, it has served to be one
of the best channels for relaying information and messages to friends,
businesses, and even other groups. Since the space is very limited,
Twitter users are utilizing some abbreviations, which may be very
confusing at first, but becomes of great benefit when mastered and
exhausted.
1. TY or Thank You
This may be two words or even two letters only, but the essence of
this message is more than enough to make a friend or any individual have
their day the brightest. Imagine seeing a TY message in the morning
because of times or moments spent with someone special the night before.
Seeing these simple acts of gratitude goes a long way.
2. YT or YouTube
When words are not enough to express what you want to say, then
mentioning YT to anyone will give them the prompt to open YouTube and
search for a video that you may be referring on the tweet. It may be a
creative way of forwarding them to see messages on video, being made
personally. Just do not forget to include a link at least so that they
would have an idea on what is being discussed.
3. BTW or By the Way
This is the perfect line for making an immediate change of topic or
subject without being too pushy. It can be considered as very casual
since the tone used is natural and common for most people. It could be
better than using negation statements just to invite someone to have a
topic or talk changed into something you personally prefer.
4. TMI or Too Much Information
Since Twitter has only 140 characters, it is already expected that
someone will use URL shorteners to tweet a link page to another site.
However, there are a few people that could share so much details in so
small of a space. Information overload in social networking sites
actually happen when the individual finds it hard to stop disclosing
details, even if there is no need to have it shared to others. Leaks may
even come out because some people may not be too careful.
5. FB or Facebook
Yes, Facebook. While most twitters think that Facebook has no space
for Twitter, being competition and all, think again since FB has already
shared its service for Twitter users who find it a fulfilling
experience of sending their Twitter status together with new and better
features and facilities over one of the best social networking sites out
there. Oftentimes, being online on both platforms is considered cool
and groovy by other users.
6. BRB or Be Right Back
This is best used by people who have a consistent momentum of
tweeting much message status in a particular time of the day. With no
warning that there may be disruptions on their end, telling them that
you will be right back only opens the idea that removes the element of
surprise when they see that you may be inactive for a couple of hours.
Better yet, this is more applicable for those people who are busy or
setting aside time for something so important like getting to the
bathroom, or eating some chow, etc.
7. LMAO or Laughing My Ass Off
A more expressive version of laughing being used in the online world,
LMAO or LMBO for a cleaner meaning, it suggest that the individual has
found a joke, a video, or a message absolutely funny that he cannot just
laugh about things sitting still in front of the computer. You may
never know if they actually jumped of their sits and laughed hard until
they dropped.
8. LOL or Laugh out Loud
A standard way of showing appreciation for a catchy phrase, a silly
idea, or a funny joke, laugh out loud can be see both as an acronym and
an emoticon with a double smile, or with the term LOL. Others may have
it used as “Lots of Love” but on Twitter, it is used as a way of
laughing hard.
9. EM or Email
Considered as part of the basic necessities in the online life,
people who are checking and updating their info on Twitter even tries to
avoid on yielding to the temptation of sharing too much. He has an
option to send a message to the individual, invite him to check the
email and all else should be presented according to the person’s need of
disclosing info. Businesses and online marketers are even using social
networking sites for campaigns and more.
10. RT or Retweet
Being used as one of the best ways to expand the number of people
reading the next couple of messages from other people, retweeting is a
courteous way of sharing details that had been taken from another
source. It is a simple reminder that you recognized somebody’s tweet and
that you are only using it to share to friends.
