How to change Number of Metro tiles rows in Windows 8 Start screen

Many of us are well familiar with the new Start Screen in Windows 8.This new feature of WIndows 8 makes it really look great.If you are using Windows 8 then you will probably find that if you are changing your Screen Resolution,then it will automatically result in change in the Windows 8 Start tiles rows.
For instance,if your computer is running Windows 8, with a screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels,then the Start Screen will have Metro apps displayed in four rows.

But what to do when your screen resolution is low.Don't worry! here is a smally registry tweak by which you can easily increase the number of rows in Windows 8 Start Screen.

How to Increase or Decrease Number of rows in Windows 8
  • Press "Win+R" key to open the "Run" dialog box,you can also open it by searching on the start screen.
  • Now in the "Run" command box type regedit and press "OK"
  • Now in the registery Editor,navigate to following:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid
  • Now in the right pane of the windows,find Layout_MaximumRowCount
  • If you are not able to find that,then Right click on the white space and select "New" and then on "DWORD (32-bit)" and named it as  Layout_MaximumRowCount


  • Now right click on it and modify the value with anything you like from 1 to 5.For example, if you have 5 rows in the Start screen, set the value to 4 or 3
  • Click on the OK button! and you are done.
  • Just restart your PC
